She is an amazing speaker for her age, however, I doubt Evelyn’s life is typical Mennonite; it sounds like she came out of the ‘box’ in her travels and increased her understanding of different religious points of view as she testified to profound changes that came from different sources. It may have been different if her parents had not died and still under community influence. Her home ‘bishops’ had very little to do with disciplining her life course. She basically had the freedom to do what she wanted without having to leave the church.
