Dialogue Ireland intends to post relevant reflections on recent judgement by Mr Justice Edward Bannister.

The judgement of Mr Justice Edward Bannister in a case brought by a founder of International Natural Energy (INE), Sheila McCaffrey, against Mr Quinn, the company and its chairwoman, Susan Morrice.

“Court cases involving cults are of particular interest.  A court case forces the parties to produce certain information, forces them to submit to questioning by a skilled professional (the barrister) and then produces a judgement from an impartial professional who is highly experienced in analysing and assessing information presented (the judge).  This means that such information has been subjected to many more tests than most evidence on what goes on behind the scenes in cults, and therefore carries more weight.  In the aftermath of the Judgement in the case involving the Educo leader, Tony Quinn, and his close colleague and Educo member, Susan Morrice, a case brought by a former Educo member, Sheila McCaffrey, many on the sidelines may be feeling confused by the inevitably short summaries available in the media, and the different selections from the Judgment presented by the various parties.  We therefore look forward shortly to the publication in full of this Judgement on the website of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court – http://www.eccourts.org/judgments.html – Judgements are usually published there within a week or so of being issued.  DI is studying  the Judgement carefully and we will post on those sections which are relevant to our focus on cult issues, in this case the marketing of Educo as an advanced education system to enable wealth creation and fulfilling living, run by spiritual and high-minded individuals. We will certainly not comment on the oil dispute at all, unless it has a bearing on the cultism issue. We will also show how the processes of influence work.  Readers’ comments will, as always, be welcomed.”
