There certainly is! I will comment with respect to Scientology since that is the one I am most familiar with, and I’ll try to keep on-topic as per what you have described.
An important part of how Scientology operates involves PR. This can involve trying to handle any negative publicity, as well as trying to project an image of vibrancy and positivity to attract new recruits. Irish examples of such include:

https://dialogueireland.wordpress.com/2011/03/07/scientology-adverts-under-investigation-writes-gabrielle-monaghan/
http://dialogueireland.org/dicontent/resources/video/latelate.html
What makes Scientology interesting, in terms of PR and media, is that much of the relevant media policies are available on the web. Each of the three examples above illustrate some of the concepts covered by these policies (and the recruiting policies too).
Here is one of the more, shall we say, unusual policies:
Maybe this might be useful for you project. If so then you can get a sizeable stack of the PR Series materials as part of the Organisation Executive Course, which can be downloaded from here: https://whyweprotest.net/community/threads/collection-of-scientology-admin-tech-electronic-index-and-materials.52188/
Let me know if this helps.

Hello,
I am a college student hoping to write about New Religious Movements for my final year project. I was hoping to focus on perceptions of these movements, however I was informed lately that my topic must include either public relations or media to be relevant to my course.. Also I hope to confine it to Ireland, as a subject so broad will surpass 10,000 words!
I’m stumped. I just don’t know how to incorporate either.. Is there much PR work going on for movements in Ireland? Are they using any media outlets to attract members? Has anyone any literature I could attain?
This is non-biased work and I would really appreciate any input from people with first-hand experience of any kind…
Thank you for your time. I can be contacted via the email address below.
