    The Islamic groups quoted saw that when Ali was interviewed by Patsy McGarry last week in support of separate education there were over 400 hundred negative comments to the Irish Times in response to him.

    Ali Selim believes that Irish Education supports apartheid, he wants to join the party

    You would form the impression that Ali Selim was just speaking on his own behalf but last week he was interviewed as the representative of Clonskeagh. Also as this post which was written in 2009 shows all in the garden is not what it might appear. Ali is now being thrown to the lions as he is is actually mouthing the line these guys all share.

    Just last week he was on RTE as a representative of the mosques on all major media outlets.

    The problem with the article is that Ms Power takes the views of one man, Ali Selim, as being the views of the Muslim community of Ireland.

    I think if you have reviewed what I have written above you will see he has been at the heart of the Muslim project here since at least 2000.
    Below is an article by one of our Islamist experts who is a native of Saudi. He was the victim of a savage beating in Bahrain but he has a deep insight into what is going on in Ireland. You will find his report suggests Ali is no lone ranger!

    In fact, the main Muslim organisations have made clear they do not agree with his views and they have a good relationship with the education providers.

    I have demonstrated that this analysis does not hold water. As you may know Islam unlike Catholicism does not have a Vatican. Each mosque has its own autonomy. Here the Sunni Mosques at Clonskeagh and at the South Circular Road were at war. When Bertie was around he treated Clonskeagh as if it was the representative organisation -Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland (ICCI.) It is not and the older the IFI organisation has begun to speak for itself. Also it was there much earlier than Clonskeagh and was consulted about educational issues. It had under its patronage the original Islamic school at Clonskeagh and the infamous school in Cabra.

    She speaks of Islam as a monolith, ignoring the fact that there are as much differences within it as there are within Christianity.

    I do not agree that this was the focus of her article at all. The fundamental difference is between Sunni and Shia the rest is pretty irrelevant. there are Sufis, Bahai and Ammadeya but little toleration of them.

    She also ignores the fact that there are considerable variations between Muslim countries in terms of the extent of religious freedom e.g. just looking at the Arabian peninsula, the difference between Saudi on the one hand and Qatar, which six years ago allowed the opening of churches.

    Qatar is a real mix. On the one hand it has the US Military HQ there. It has a TV station that lets the most repressive material out with Sheik Quradawi and the Muslim Brotherhood line, as well as its news service. Then it is the base and funding master of Hamas, and was of Morsi in Egypt. It is at variance on the Muslim Brotherhood with its Gulf State neighbours who threw them out. They might be the exception that proves the rule.

    Why would Ms Power do otherwise? The article is focused on Ali Selim’s demands to justify muslim apartheid in the educational system.

    Read the Stanley Letter 1831 the Magna Carta (Latin for Great Charter) that laid down the principles that are supposed to underpin our schools ,
    open to all children with no religious discrimination on admissions but also allowing for separate religious education.
    For a full analysis then read the Clontarf Report.There is not meant to be religious apartheid in state funded schools.
    Religious Choice Theorist are not meant to get state funding for Teachers salaries and schools.
