Update and disclaimer concerning our B Shareholder post

Dialogue Ireland and its executive committee have been receiving attempts to influence us by Skype, text and misappropriated email addresses. We wish you to understand the following:

 Disclaimer:

Dialogue Ireland is dedicated to collecting information about cults, and providing information and guidance to victims and other concerned parties.  To victims, families and others affected by the activities of cults, we have a duty of care, preserving confidentiality and trust.

We do not seek or invite contacts from people with other agendas, such as commercial interests.  We are not a contact network for such persons.

Not only would involvement with commercial interests be outside our remit to focus on the activities of cults, it also would create a conflict of interest with our duty of care and confidentiality to those who contact us regarding genuinely cult-related matters.

We trust that this message is clear and will help to avoid potential misunderstandings.

Any issues or concerns can be addressed to the Director at info@dialogueireland.org     who will bring them to the attention of the DI Executive Committee. (more…)

Lessons for the media in relation to dealing with Charities

Sunday Times journalist Stephen Price really gets to the point of the dilemma facing newspapers in a dwindling market for hard copies. He writes eruditely on this subject quite regularly. We in Dialogue Ireland are finding as a charity dedicated to archiving material which can assist the victims of cults an increasing problem of the main media treating this blog as if it was a commercial threat? We were able to get TV programmes and upload them onto YouTube but now we are faced with them being taken down for copyright reasons. Great programmes produced at great expense which were available for a day or on a player are lost for ever. The same is happening with the newspapers. Where as we could get a pdf of a story from a journalist we had assisted in writing a story we now find they themselves can’t even get it!

This article below illustrates this dilemma and the contradictions of a helping group being in trouble for reproducing material of relevance to battered women and children. Equally as a charity that assists the victims of cults it is hardly the answer to not allow us material which can assist our readers.

Stephen Price on media

It was the American politician Hubert Humphrey, once regarded as the greatest president that country never had, who posited that “the right to be heard does not automatically include the right to be taken seriously”. If Humphrey’s wisdom could be applied to one lobby group in recent weeks, it would be the National Newspapers of Ireland (NNI), the umbrella body for Irish newspapers where members “put aside their individual competitive agendas and draw on the strength of acting as a group to inform the public of the power of the press”.
